...and please dont come another day!
It has been raining a lot this past week! Earlier this week, I didn´t even hear my alarm go off due to the pounding rain on my tin roof and the earsplitting thundering going on outside! It was crazy. Luckily, no one is able to sleep past 6 a.m. in Costa Rica, so I still woke up in plenty of time to go to school. Than, it started to pour on Thursday afternoon and didn´t stop until almost the same time the next day. It POURED for almost 24 hours straight. The road to my house turned into a river, ankle deep.
I also signed up at the gym this past week. It is super tiny, but has most of the machines I use and also offers aerobics and pilates classes. I have to say, signing up at a gym here is way easier than signing up at a gym in the States. I walked in, told them I wanted to sign up for a month and paid. There was no start up fee, contract, tour of the gym (maybe because you could see all the gym had to offer standing there at the front desk?), nothing. I didn´t even receive a card or anything saying that I was a ¨member¨for the month. Ah, the easines...
School is going well. Last week I was not in class because I was finishing my second week of my TEFL certification. On Monday, all of my students were super excited that I was back. I even had a 6th grader tell me they missed me, which I guess (according to the Tica teacher) is huge. It was nice to be back, though. We were testing, so it was not the most interesting of weeks, but we did practice a lot for English Day. I also had a student tell me as one of his answers to his oral test that he ¨poops things in his backpack¨. It was supposed to be ¨put things in his backpack¨but he got a little confused I guess. I laughed.
I have quite a few breaks coming up here in October. I am off of school Oct. 8-12 and than again on the 21-24. There are also rumors of school closing for good on November 22. lots of down time...hopefully that gym membership will work out!
love to you all!

I was watching the movie The Last Waltz as I was riding the stationary bike today. When Dylan came on and sang Forever Young, I thought of you and your brothers and sisters. I admit to getting a little teary eyed whenever I hear this song. I love all of you so much.
ReplyDelete"Forever Young"
May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
I hope your mom and I have given you that strong foundation. I cannot think of a more important role as a parent.
Well, the Devils lost last night to Oregon State. They didn't look very good, except for McGaha. Danny Sullivan looked terrible. There is talk in todays paper of replacing him. It's needed.
last night at supper club, Mary Novotny and Lisa Grant were telling us about this project a Jesuit has undertaken to provide basic services to immigrants who have been returned to Mexico. The kind and generous nation that is the United States, just dumps these people in Nogales, mexico. Some have no or only distant family in mexico. Some have lived most of their lives in the US. Almost all had no money, food and just the clothes on their back. This priest and three nuns provide basic food and whatever limited help they can in helping the people contact family in Mexico or Central America. They also provide a safe manner by which family in the US can get money to them.
I think we, the supper club people, are going to plan on going down once per month and bringing food and whatever else we can to help. I am truly looking forward to that.
So, I was lecturing about present participle and one of my studetns was not understanding, so she goes "oh, sweet nibblets!" I am not sure where she learned or if she even has any idea what it is (although, I am not sure I do either), but it was freaking hilarious and I am still giggling at the sound of it coming out of her mouth :) Enjoy the day!
ReplyDeleteI have to post my shower rod story even though I sent to Elz and Pat already. We needed a new shower rod for the women's bathroom here. i sent a guy to get it with the explicit instructions it be 72 inches long. He comes back with one 48 inches long. His excuse was that it was the only one they had. I have yet to figure out how a rod that is 30 inches too short from fitting between the walls is of any help. Maybe he thought the ladies could just hold it up as they showered. One that served no purpose has to be better than none at all, I guess.
ReplyDeleteSo, I have a rule that if my students say a bad word, then they have to pick up a piece or gum per word from under the desks. Well, this girl Stephanie said the f word and this other girl Evelyn looked at my with wide eyes and said "ooh, 2 gums for Estephaie"...I <3 it!!!
ReplyDeleteOur Devils won on Saturday. But it qas WSU that we beat which is like beating a high school team. Sully still didn't play very well. We need a quarterback. More and more people are calling for Sullivan's replacement. We play U Washington next week. They beat uofa in a bizarre game Saturday. The Kitties were winning until U Dub intercepted a pass that deflected off one of the kittie's feet. he ran it in for a touchdown. Just stunned the Cats. Toooooooooooooo Badddddddddddddd.
